Art Deco chair and Shang system cabinet

The Maverick armchair, EMBRACE ME cushion and SHANG System cabinet in ER Combination.  The Banker Desk Lamp pays homage to 1930’s Shanghai.  Perfect for the study or by the bedside. Beautifully crafted in glass and marble.

1930’s Shanghai…it was the ‘Paris of the East’, an east meets west melting pot in one of the world’s fastest growing cities – an era of luxury, exuberance and progress.  The Art Deco period was in full swing – a time when technology and traditional craft combined to produce striking architecture and design.

Fast forward to Singapore 2012, and drawing on inspiration from that era and their Chinese heritage, Pamela Ting and Jessica Wong founded Scene Shang, their furniture and homewares business.  The Art Deco period may have passed but it’s influence can be found in Scene Shang’s approach to the design and craftsmanship of their collection.

Working closely with artisans in Shanghai, Scene Shang have created a beautiful range of furniture and accessories that is both simple and sophisticated.   The collection blends an Art Deco style – curved lines and a clean structured look, alongside elements of classical Chinese design.  Far from being heavy and traditional, the pieces have a fresh and contemporary look suitable to our modern times.  Great care has been taken with the design of each piece, from the clever stacking system of the cabinets, to the use of recycled wood in the side tables.

Shang System Cabinet

The SHANG System cabinet is a beautiful example of traditional craftsmanship. The design is reminiscent of Ming Dynasty furniture but it has been updated using a modern colour palette and contemporary stacking system. Each element of the cabinet from the base to the drawer to the top have been designed to stack one on top of the other using handmade grooves. This clever design offers maximum flexibility – one drawer and it can be a bedside table, two drawers – an entrance table…three drawers – a chest of drawers for the bedroom.  The choice is yours.
