This Week I’m Loving
I read a great article recently in one of the international newspapers that was titled “It’s only January 29 and I’m already tired”. Never has a headline spoken to me so directly. It was an interesting article that was a little tongue in cheek but also rang with truisms that I think we can all relate to. The fact that despite most of us having recently had a break - which included actual overseas travel, the feelings of fatigue have continued.
Perhaps after two years of the pandemic we are all utterly spent and one holiday away is not enough to erase the strain that has built up over a period of time? Whatever the reason, the sense of tiredness is present for many of us. I don’t have many solutions that you won’t already have thought of yourself - eating well, getting sleep, exercising, reducing the amount we pack into our days and weeks, getting together with good friends who make us laugh…all these things help. Acknowledging you feel a bit tired is a good thing but dwelling on it and talking about it endlessly probably doesn’t help. So on that note, consider this topic closed. So…what have I been loving this week…? Quite a lot as it happens!
Sweet Bobby Podcast from Tortoise Media
Seriously struggled to not binge listen to this podcast. Great investigative journalism from Alexi Mostrous detailing the story of a sophisticated catfish operation that will leave you gob smacked. And if you are anything like me, by the end you will be really wishing that the person responsible for this awful scam will be held accountable. And perhaps questioning just how this bizarre character held someone captive for over 10 years. So much to discuss about this podcast. sweetbobbypodcast
2. jones bold stripe dress in red / white by Irving and Powell
A new favourite in my wardrobe - a gorgeous soft cotton shirt dress in a happy red and white stripe. I love Irving & Powell shirts (which I have just a couple left in the shop) and these shirt dresses are a perfect easy-to-get-ready-in-the-morning outfit. It comes with a self fabric belt that you can tie - it’s not shown here in this shot but I would wear it with a belt - either the one that the dress comes with or I also like to team this dress with a tan leather one. irvingandpowell.com ships to Singapore.
3. aussie lamington ball by health lab
I bought this on a whim when I was in Little Farms the other day and I am so glad that I did - they are delicious. I’ve also tried the choc hazelnut one which was also good. Very delicious little ball of goodness if you like chocolate, coconut and raspberry. I mean, who doesn’t? Perfect as an afternoon snack with a cup of tea. littlefarms.com
4. the tinder swindler on netflix
I was riveted by this documentary this week. Not dissimilar in theme to the Sweet Bobby podcast (clearly catfishing is gaining in it’s sophistication and cruelty and being picked up by media as a result). While watching, I was thoroughly glad that this man was the subject of such a popular documentary as hopefully more women will not fall under his spell - although upon airing of the documentary he was still out and about, living his lavish life and continuing as before, so maybe not (is it just me, or does everyone else feel like not enough justice is served in these circumstances?) This documentary also made me feel thoroughly glad that Tinder has never been a feature of my life.
5. LIP GLOW BY DIOR
My good friends are always telling me to wear lipstick. It has become a bit of a joke that I never do - and that they think I should. Sometimes when we are out I have to put one of their lipsticks on just to prove how god awful I look wearing lipstick. It is a cause for much chat and laughter. Anyway, that being the case, I am always on the lookout for lip glosses that give a hint of colour. I used to wear this Dior one all the time many years ago, and just rediscovered it this week. It’s my latest go-to no-lipstick lipstick. Dior.com.sg
That’s it from me. Wishing you all a good week ahead. Let me know if you like any of these recommendations - and if you have any great podcasts you think I’d like, let me know below.
