3 of a Kind: Deck the Halls with Our Picks for Christmas Decorations
It’s almost time to decorate the house which means it’s time to unearth the Christmas decorations from last year. In Singapore, that can be a slightly daunting task…will everything have survived another hot and humid year? What I usually find are a collection of cheap glass baubles hastily thrown back into sacks, some missing their metallic tops, little pieces of string attached to some, others cracked, a tangle of tree lights that I swore we packed away methodically last year (didn’t we?), special Christmas decorations wrapped preciously that I’d forgotten about but love. It’s a real mixed bag.
My very first proper Christmas decoration buying was the year 2000. I had a swanky apartment in London and I had convinced my new boyfriend (now husband) to move in with me. I bought a huge tree that reached the ceiling and went to Libertys, Harrods and Selfridges to buy the most beautiful decorations. Some of them have survived to today - others sadly haven’t. Since having kids, I have loosened my idea of how the tree should look. I usually take the kids to buy decorations each year - just a couple of new things to add to the mix and they have free rein to pick whatever they like. It’s no Liberty worthy tree anymore let me tell you! but it’s festive and fun and I cherish these moments with them. The Christmas decoration box may be smelling of mildew, but within it’s depth are memories of Christmas pasts. And I love that.
So, if like me, you like to add some new baubles and pretty items to your Christmas decoration stash each year, here are some lovely ideas for you. (I will confess I have already purchased some of the fun graphic baubles in look 1 for this year - we will be at the beach and I am going to go with a clean white, bright pop of colour, laidback look this year).
