The Brands I use for Everyday Dewy Pretty Makeup
Wearing makeup that doesn’t look like I’m wearing makeup is my all time favourite. I have never been an obvious makeup person - not even when I was younger. And as I have matured (ahem) I have looked for formulations and colours that give just enough without being too much.
A few years ago I hired a makeup artist to come to my house and do everyday makeup for me. I was in need of a makeup overhaul and really couldn’t be bothered to traipse around the beauty hall of a department store trying to figure out which blush and which foundation. So I went to an expert - and it was brilliant. She introduced me to products that I continue to use today and that were spot on in terms of what I was looking for.
Since then I have discovered some new products myself and now I have a tight unit of 6 (sometimes 7) products that always work for everyday dewy, pretty and subtle make up. Here’s my list…
Everyday Dewy Pretty Makeup
My Ultimate Go-To Products in Order of How I Put Them On
Charlotte Tilbury, Wonder Glow. After moisturising (I use Dermalogica) I smooth this Wonder Glow all over my face. The tiniest hint of warm colour that acts as a primer. Slightly pearlised so it gives that lit-from-within glow that most women wish for (and all women are in desperate need of post 50).
Westman Atelier, Vital Skincare Complexion Drops. My skin is matched to Atelier V (but this is not useful for you as your skin will need its own colour). Sadly Westman Atelier is not available in store in Singapore so have your skin matched when you are next overseas. When I first started using this product I really didn’t like the smell. It is a clean formula and has a kind of organic smell to it. I don’t notice it anymore. The formulation is creamy and gives a really dewy finish and it is one of those new hybrid products that is both skincare and makeup. A little goes a long way. It gives a light coverage so you can still see your skin. Which I love.
Concealer. Sometimes I use a dab of concealer here and there over the top of the Vital Skincare Complexion drops but I’m not recommending one here because honestly, I feel like of the brands I’ve used I like them all well-enough but wouldn’t say “you have to buy it”. So over to you. Whichever concealer you’re using is probably great.
Westman Atelier Baby Cheeks Blush. I wear the colour ‘Petal’. Again, this is a big favourite and I don’t think I’ll ever look back. Dewy, creamy and a really beautiful neutral pink colour for my skin tone. Beautiful packaging (it shouldn’t matter, but somehow it does) and a clean formula that is good for your skin.
Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerise. I wear colour ‘Champagne’. A pearly creamy formulation that I just dab my finger into and slightly swipe along my lower lid (people - I am basic - don’t judge). Just enough of a colour to not look like your eyes are naked, but not anything that screams “I’m wearing eye shadow”. I have big round eyes to I have a lower lid that can be seen, and this product is a winner for giving my eyes just a little brightness.
Hourglass Unlocked Instant Extensions Mascara. I can not rave about this mascara enough. It is a tubing mascara (I switched to tubing mascara about 10 years ago and used to always wear the Bobbi Brown one - which I adored - and then they stopped making it. Why?? / and also annoying). So I researched tubing mascaras because there was no way I was going back to the regular formula type, and Hourglass came up with positive reviews. It is great. I highly recommend. Zero smudging (because…tubing) and comes off with water and a gentle swipe with your fingers along your lashes. (For those of you thinking ‘what the actual is tubing mascara’ - it basically encases your lashes individually into a little mascara tubes and it’s formulation means it doesn’t smudge and it’s not removed with eye makeup remover (which I love because it means no rubbing your eyes). I just wash my face at the end of the day and the mascara comes off like tiny little eyelashes floating down the sink. Very brilliant. I have long lashes but I think this does a great job at lengthening and not clumping.
Hourglass Volumising Glossy Balm. I bought the colour ‘Reveal’. This was a spare of the moment purchase. I don’t ever wear lipstick (countless makeup artists have not believed me when I say I look terrible with lipstick - all of them have said “you just need to find the right colour” and then ALL OF THEM have been stumped and after much trying have conceded “that’s weird. you really can’t wear lipstick”. Yeah. Anyway, as a consequence I am always looking for formulations that give a hint of colour (hello completely colourless 50+ lips) without actually being lipstick. So far I’m loving this. It’s more glossy than I would usually go for but I’m liking it. The colour is like your lips but better and it has the pepperminty tingly thing which I don’t mind. I think this is my new fave.
And that’s us caught up on pretty and dewy everyday makeup that I love. As always, you know the drill - nothing has been paid for here. It’s just my point of view and free PR for these brands because I use their stuff and not because they paid me anything to say I do. They don’t even know I wrote this. Until next time.
