Round Up: Our Favourite Finds for that Sunny Summer Feel

There is a distinctly sunny feeling to Singapore right now and I’m here for it. What a difference it makes to arrive home to warm weather and (generally) clear skies…it is Singapore after all, so as I type thunder is rumbling somewhere nearby. Thunderstorms aside, this is without doubt the nicest time of the year for a dose of sunshine. But more than the weather, there is a definite shift in mood happening in Singapore. Last year was a bit flat and a bit..I don’t know, kind of angst ridden? There were Covid restrictions in the first quarter, a mass exodus of expats mid year (which is always unsettling) and an influx of new expats from Hong Kong which lots of people got really hot under the collar about. Like somehow Singapore only belonged to those of us who have lived here a long time, or were born here. This division was particularly apparent in the expat community. Perhaps because expats in Hong Kong have historically rubbished Singapore as somehow lesser than Hong Kong and upon their arrival, rents skyrocketed. I’ve lived in both cities and I think they’re both great and totally different so I really don’t understand making the comparison. In any case, that was 2022 and I have the feeling lots of this angst has now dissipated and what I sense is a feeling of renewal with happier, sunnier and steadier days ahead for us all. I hope I’m right. I, for one, am looking forward to a happy year ahead.

To celebrate this sunny feeling and having just returned from the sunniest of holidays in Australia, I am giving you my sunny Aussie influenced edit to kick start the year.
