The Neutral Edit

If you’ve been following me for a while, it won’t really come as much of a surprise when I tell you that one of my favourite colour palettes for interior styling is neutrals.  From earthy greens and taupes through to classic white - this palette feels contemporary, sophisticated and beautifully understated.  I like a little subtlety in my interiors and this colour palette is classic without being too obvious and it works beautifully against a white background, as the muddy earthy colours can really stay true.

Don’t forget that black and white can always be used as neutrals. The honed black marble top of this beautiful side table by Bethan Gray helps to anchor the composition and provide contrast against the white sofa.

Add a beautiful earthy fragrance to your home with the Le Bois candle. This woody fragrance with hints of leather and smoke is the perfect accompaniment to the neutral palette.

TIPS FOR WORKING WITH A NUETRAL PALETTE

  • Working with neutrals doesn’t necessarily mean ‘beige’ or that everything should be wishy washy

  • Combine earthy kaki green with a bright white to keep it looking fresh

  • Add interest to your space by pairing a neutral palette with different materials - marble, brass, glass

  • Not everything needs to match - here a pale grey rug adds texture and is not too ‘matchy matchy’

  • If you have a beige or brown sofa, choose your neutral cushions carefully. When colours are too close but not quite the same they can end up looking dirty or too yellow.
