Style Everyday Florals: 3 Looks to Try Today
I love fresh flowers and foliage in our home but as I think we’ve all established by now, I am not one for a great deal of fuss. I want the flowers I buy to work on their own or paired with just a little greenery and I rarely put more than two different floral items in a vase together.
When I visit the flower markets I am considering what is fresh but also where I want the flowers to go, which vases I will use and how the flowers will look with each other as you move from room to room.
Yesterday I popped into the flower markets and bought some magnolia leaves, a bunch of blushing brides, a large white hydrangea and a small green hydrangea and finally some greenery called pistacia.
magnolia leaves
I wanted the magnolia leaves for this round table. I didn’t do anything other than snap off a couple of leaves which were very far down the stem (and therefore would have been in the water). These sturdy branches didn’t need any trimming, just buy and place in a pail shaped vase. When placing the stems in the vase have a think about which way the vase will face and how it will look when you walk in the room. There is no need to pay attention to creating a 360 degree arrangement if it will only be seen from the front.
HYDRANGEAS
I used the black and malachite offering vases from Dinosaur Designs for the hydrangeas - placing just one of each bloom in the vases, allowing appreciation for the beautiful vase shape. Even though hydrangeas come on a long stem, there is no reason to keep them like that. These hydrangeas were trimmed by more than half to get the right height for the vase.
For the malachite vase, I decided to pair the small green hydrangea with just two stems of the blushing brides. I love the soft pink against the malachite green. It is a lovely combination.
