Everyday Essentials: The Neutral Skirt
In recent months I have become a little obsessed (perhaps obsessed is too strong a word…) let’s say “interested”, in seeking out a neutral coloured skirt. In a midi length, preferably in cotton and something that felt versatile and classic - a piece that I could keep in my wardrobe for years to come and combine with a variety of tops or shoes to create (slightly different) looks.
I have been saving some inspiration images on Pinterest and then this week I stumbled across a neutral coloured skirt in an actual shop in Singapore (I know! *gasp! - like so many people my fashion shopping now exists almost entirely online and as a consequence can be a bit hit and miss) so I snapped it up.
Today was my first wearing of the skirt (a rare thing for me - I usually buy new items and then don’t wear them for months. When I finally do wear the “new” item out, it then becomes part of my wardrobe on a regular occurrence. I honestly can’t say why I wait but I always do. Perhaps its delaying gratification? Or savouring the purchase? I’m not sure). It’s a bit strange, I know.
So I paired today’s new skirt with another classic - a striped tee. It’s a combination that will never go out of fashion and whilst it’s hardly hitting the dizzying fashion heights, it is a staple pairing that will see you well for years to come. When buying new, it’s always good to consider just how many wears you can get out of the item - churning through trendy fashion is not great for the environment…or your wallet.
So whilst today it was a striped tee, I will also look to pair the skirt with a crisp white shirt, perhaps a black tank top for evening with black strappy sandals, and maybe a striped men’s style shirt on other days too. The options seem fairly endless.
