Turn Your Photos into a Beautiful Keepsake and Make a Book with Artifact Uprising

At the end of each holiday I like to make a photo book using Artifact Uprising. I order multiple copies so that I can send one to each of the family that joined us on the holiday. In this digital age where our photos are stored on the computer or on our phone, it is so lovely to produce a book that you can keep on your coffee table or on your bookshelf, and pull out from time to time to reminisce about good times past. One of these moments happened on our recent holiday when we visited my brother and his family. He had some of the books I had made on the coffee table, so my son sat down with his Nana to look at the books. It was such a lovely thing to see.

I have also made these books to celebrate milestone birthdays. It really makes the most wonderful gifts.

There are many photo book businesses but I have always used Artifact Uprising. They have a gorgeous selection of stylish covers for your books, the interface is extremely easy to use and the service is efficient.

When the book arrives, it is packaged in a box with a sleeve cover. Inside the book is wrapped in translucent paper. The whole experience of unwrapping your book is beautiful.

5 tips for producing your photo book

  • Make sure you are using high quality photos - you will get the best results with high res images.

  • Think about the story you are telling with the images. I like to follow the itinerary of the trip to tell the story and within this framework I give thought to which images will be placed next to one another to further enhance the story telling aspect. In the images above you see the moment of an icy ocean rockpool dip - looking for a rockpool, holding hands, getting ready to jump, jumping in, climbing out and giggling soaking wet at the end. The sequence of images tell the story.

  • Consider the layout and format of each page - use a variety of templates and include full bleed images on some pages including spanning a double spread.

  • I like to print on matt paper for a sophisticated feel

  • If you would like to add text, create a jpeg or png text file so that you can insert it as an image.

Happy new year everyone. And here’s wishing all of us will have many more memory making holidays in 2022.
