5 Things for the Week Ahead : 25/09
Ruby Grapefruit Cake
During my sickness last week a lovely friend dropped around some goodies to help me feel better. In the basket were several ray grapefruit and some freshly squeezed juice. I can’t tell you how delicious freshly squeezed ruby grapefruit is. I have now been making it each morning. I found this recipe on Pinterest for a ruby grapefruit cake which sounds similar to my Lemon Rosemary one so I’m going to cook it this week and I’ll let you know how it goes. Embroidered Linen Napkins
I’m loving these scalloped embodied linen napkins from Zara Home. Even though I feel the scallop motif has been done to death recently, these somehow feel timeless. I love the rust colour and sweet floral embroidery. Image credit: Zara Home. Napkins here
Demon Copperhead and NY Times The Daily Podcast
I read Demon Copperheadover the summer and absolutely loved it. It has stayed with me since reading it. The past week, the NY Times podcast ‘The Daily’, did an episode on an aspect of the opioid crises in the US which had me thinking about this book again. Both are so good to read / listen to. I highly recommend. Listen to The Daily episode here.
Cooking Tip: How to Zest Using a Microplane
Ok…I’ve been cooking for a long old while now and zesting with a microplane is nothing new. But somehow I never knew that you actually turn the microplane upside down and zest by holding the fruit still and moving the microplane over the top of the fruit so that the zest collects in the little channel. Have I been living under a rock? It’s a game changer.
