From Slopes to Beach: Our Fashion Edit for Your Next Getaway
Christmas is upon us and for many that means packing the suitcases and seeking sun or glistening snow. I am super excited to finally be going skiing this year. Many failed covid-related attempts, but this year, nothing is going to stop me, I shall be found inhaling fresh mountain air, eating my body weight in cheese and vin chaud, and generally loving the freedom of space and altitude. Many of us in Singapore will be following suit, or going in the other direction and heading for the sunshine downunder. Sunshine or snow, I have you covered with a wardrobe edit to suit your holiday destination.
APRES CHIC
Packing for snow in our tropical climate is never easy and due to space (and mould!) issues, most of my winter belongings (much to my father’s delight) are stored at my parents house in the UK. You would think I would learn; take photos, videos, notes to remind myself what lies in the depths of my childhood wardrobe, but no, I am clueless. The key basics, ski jacket, trousers, etc I know but it is the apres-ski where I start to struggle. My advice, pack a concise, and if possible colour-coordinated wardrobe to easily mix and match. Layers are key….wandering around pretty villages carpeted in snow is perfect for thick woolly jumpers and big coats but as soon as you enter a hotel or restaurant the cosy fires and blazing heat requires layers to be stripped off. Pretty tops, shirts, cardigans etc work wonders under a gorgeous knit with a leather legging or narrow jean. A few simple accessories and a pair of mega boots and you are all set.
SUMMER STYLE
Whenever I start packing for the sun I always pull out way too many items from my wardrobe only to realise that I need to cull and curate as half the items are never worn. Too many items just means I end up wasting precious sun-chilling time with unpacking and repacking unworn clothes. I find dresses and kaftans are the way forward for pulled together, fuss-free looks. Long, short, wide, slim, take a selection of printed or block colour dresses that will work day or night. One great pair of flats (I find a gold pair works with everything) and a couple of key accessories with some gorgeous swimwear and you are sure to be covered for every occasion.
