My Favourite Picks from the Affordable Art Fair 2024, Singapore
With over 83 galleries representing more than 700 artists at the Affordable Art Fair, finding the art that you love can be a complete joy - meandering along, stopping to look, wandering some more. On the flip side it can also feel a little bit like a needle in a haystack. So, if you want to hit the Affordable Art Fair with some pieces already in mind, I have done some leg work for you (yes…I went through all 83 galleries!) and rounded up some of my favourites for you to consider.
Doing a little research first can help tremendously if you are looking to buy. And even if (this time) you are just there to browse, having a few artists or specific pieces to look out for can make your trip feel just that little bit more purposeful.
How have I chosen the pieces that I like?
It’s pretty simple. It’s based on what I like the look of. Personally, I am not driven by buying art as an investment or based on how popular an artist is. I would rather buy pieces that I love and that I will hang on my walls and enjoy seeing day in and day out. As with my approach to all things interiors, I also like to combine textures and materials, so when considering art, I am also thinking about the medium of the piece. I don’t want all of my art to look and feel the same. And I’m also considering size and where the piece may hang. And that’s it!

How to style this piece
A lovely little watercolour piece - at only 27x27cm in size it is a tiny artwork that will work beautifully leaning on a console table or on a bookshelf. I would also consider hanging this with another couple of pieces larger in size to create an interesting gallery hang. A small piece like this can find its way on to many walls or surfaces. If hanging, making sure you are placing it on a wall that is appropriately small so that the artwork isn’t overwhelmed by the space around it.
How to Style This Piece
A fun and interesting piece that would work beautifully in a gallery style hang with other artworks. I love the round shape as it’s unexpected and creates impact. I would hang this piece in a hallway, entrance or dining room as part of a series of artworks. (You might be fighting me for this piece at the Fair…just saying!)
How to Style This Piece
This bright piece will work equally well on its own or as part of a gallery wall. I would also consider framing this in an oak tray frame and placing it on a console table or cabinet as part of a styling tableau rather than hanging it. At 40x40cm it is just big enough to work on it’s own but would definitely look great surrounded by other art of objects.
How to Style This Piece
I love the raw linen as the canvas for this piece. It adds an earthy textural element. I would hang this artwork at an entrance or in a living room above a side table. At 70 x 50cm it is a medium sized piece that can hang alone in a prominent place. I would frame this in an oak tray frame.
How to Style This Piece
A gorgeous piece that comes already framed in Tasmanian oak - perfect for taking home and hanging up straight away. I would hang this above a bedside table, in a living room or at the entrance. It is a medium sized piece and will work well hung on it’s own above a piece of furniture. I would be tempted to hang it above a side board with a vase of eucalyptus nearby to lean into the earthy palette.

I’ve kind of fallen in love with these figurines. I love their quirkiness. There are more in this series and each of them are slightly different. Place them on a bookshelf or as part of a styling tableau on a console table. They are quite large in size so they will provide a really nice focal point.
How to Style This Piece
This is a large piece measuring almost a metre in height so this is definitely one to hang on its own. Give it plenty of space in a living room or at the end of a hallway to create impact. Its bold colours and graphic elements will work beautifully when placed in an area of your home where there is no visual clutter. So think about hanging it with plenty of negative space around it.
How to Style This Piece
The sweetest little piece - not dissimilar in idea to a series of three artworks that I have hanging at our entrance. This piece would work beautifully as part of a gallery hang, or on a wall that is small in scale. I would consider hanging this in a powder room, propping it up on a bookshelf or on a console.
How to Style This Piece
Another big piece with graphic elements that will need a decent amount of wall space to really work. I would consider hanging this centrally above a sideboard or console table. It would work really well in a dining room or at an entrance. Anchor it against a piece of furniture. Given the strong black motif, I would consider framing this in a white box frame with the artwork placed at the back of the frame.
How to Style This Piece
I love that this piece speaks to living in Asia without being clichéd. I also adore the depth of the dark black at the top of the work. This is a medium sized piece that I think would work best hung on its own but at a pinch, I would also consider it as part of a gallery hang. If hanging it on it’s own, it would look best hung on a wall that is not too big and I would also consider hanging this with a good dose of negative space around it. Let the simplicity of this piece work without visual clutter. In terms of framing, I would consider a floating mount in a white tray frame.
Some final thoughts…
There are so many great choices to be had at the Affordable Art Fair. Give yourself time to browse and consider the pieces that you love. The above is just the tip of the iceberg of what will be at the Fair. And if you buy any of the pieces that I’ve recommended, let me know. I’ll be eternally jealous!
